Arrindell released from detention

PHILIPSBURG--Checkmate Security owner O’Neal Arrindell was released from pre-trial detention on Tuesday by instruction of the Prosecutor. He remains a suspect in the Squid investigation, according to a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.

The “Squid” investigation conducted by the National Detectives of St. Maarten concerns accusations of “vote-buying” during the 2016 Parliamentary election. A number of suspects and witnesses are still to be questioned in this investigation and confiscated items are being carefully analysed.

Arrindell was arrested on February 28 and is still a suspect in the yet-to-be-concluded money-laundering, forgery, tax fraud and illegal firearm possession Emerald case.
