Application for hurricane pass to start in early April

POND ISLAND--Government departments and agencies and other vital institutions can start preparing their documents for their annual hurricane passes issued by the Office of Disaster Management via the Fire Department.

Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin announced on Wednesday that the application process for passes will commence in early April and run for about a month. This will ensure everyone entitled to a pass receives one ahead of the start of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season on June 1.

Government is busy with its preparation for the hurricane season, she said in the Council of Ministers press briefing.

The island was hit by two hurricanes – Irma and Maria – in September 2017. Recovery efforts after the onslaught of Irma are still underway. Many residents are still without roofs as the days tick by to the start of what forecasters say will be another very active storm season.
