ANGUILLA--A US citizen has donated US $100,000 to help repair the hurricane-ravaged Ebenezer Methodist Church in The Valley. The roof of this historic building was completely destroyed by Hurricane Irma. The funding was given to the Anguilla Progressive Association of New York (APANY) to relay to Anguilla.
Emily Millis Hiatt, a frequent visitor to Anguilla, made this generous donation. Jim Millis, the benefactor’s brother, owns a home in Anguilla and says his sister Emily “loves this island so much.” He states, “When she saw the devastation from the hurricane, she knew she wanted to find a way to help. Emily is a kind and compassionate person of faith that believes in giving from the heart, and she hopes to make a difference in this world we are living in.”
In support of Hurricane Irma recovery efforts, Hiatt decided that helping rebuild Anguilla’s oldest church would be a good place to start. She chose APANY as the official avenue to donate, noting it was a credible site, which ensured her financial gift would serve Ebenezer in its time of need. As of October 25, 2017, her donation has been transferred to the Rotary Club of Anguilla for distribution to the Methodist Church.
Members of APANY branches in New York, Florida, Baltimore, Maryland; and Washington, DC are expressing thanks to Hiatt for her important donation. “We are all encouraged by this act of kindness in support of our mission to help rebuild Anguilla, and we hope more will contribute and return to the island soon to see the fruits of your generosity,” a release states.
