PHILIPSBURG--A male motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a motor vehicle on AJC Brouwer Road early Thursday morning, marking the second fatal motorcycle accident on that stretch of road in three days.
The Police Force of St Maarten (KPSM) said it is investigating the fatal traffic accident, which occurred shortly after 2:30am on June 11 in the area just before the Harold Jack Lookout Point.
According to police, the Central Police Dispatch received several reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a motor vehicle. Police patrols and ambulance personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found a male victim lying on the roadway. Emergency medical personnel provided urgent medical assistance, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a motor vehicle was travelling downhill on AJC Brouwer Road toward the Kruythoff Roundabout and was reportedly overtaking several vehicles. At the same time, the motorcycle rider was travelling uphill in the direction of the Harold Jack Lookout Point.
For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle and motorcycle collided head-on, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider.
KPSM's Traffic Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Traffic investigators are gathering evidence to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Police again urged all road users to exercise extreme caution and responsibility while operating vehicles on St. Maarten's roads.
