PHILIPSBURG--The island’s top two elite cyclists, Nicole Erato and Wilson Sanon will be representing the island at the UCI World Cycling Championships that are under way in Glasgow, Scotland, from August 3 to 13.

Nicole is due to race in the Women’s Grand Fondo today Friday, before taking on the Individual Time Trial on Monday, August 7, the Women’s Elite Individual Time Trial on Tuesday, August 10, and Women’s Elite Road Race on Sunday, August 13. St. Martiner Wilson Sanon (18) who is now based in France with a Haitian Cycling Club will depart for Glasgow from France on Saturday, August 5. He is due to compete in the U23 road race on August 12 with the Haitian selection and will do the individual time trial as well. Unfortunately, it seems Wilson will not be able to use his new racing bike at the championships as it got held up in customs as the person transporting it had forgotten to take the bill of sale. The bike purchase was partly sponsored by the Collectivité, Tri Sport and the club in La Savane. Wilson’s coach Edmond Cocks said he will be riding his blue racing bike instead in Scotland and will deal with the customs issue after the championships. “It’s going to be a very good experience for him,” said Cocks. “He has been training hard for these championships and is very motivated. He’s going to give it his best.” The world championships will have good representation from the Caribbean. Among the riders from the different islands is Hasani Hennis from Anguilla.
