MARIGOT--Velo Club de Grand Case’s (VCG) Eva Rivera Guererro is currently lying in fourteenth place in the general classification after the first two stages of the 68th Tour of Guadeloupe cycle race. Results of the other five members of the team appear disappointing, however, it is still early days and the tour continues until August 12.
Some 125 riders are contesting the tour this year from 25 teams. VCG’s Parra Suarez placed the highest in Saturday’s first 163K stage from Pointe-à-Pitre to La Moule with a 22nd place, Rivera Guerrero was 32nd, Olivier Currier 37th, Ludovic Turpin 49th, Allan Peramin 105th and Jason Rousseau 106th.
Rousseau was the highest placed finisher for the team in the 1K time trial held in the Velodrome on Friday, with a seventh place. He was awarded the green jersey for Most Combative rider.
Sunday’s second stage was a 106K ride from La Moule to Basse-Terre. Rivera Guerrero was again the highest placed finisher with 12th place, Parra Suarez was 17th, Ludovic Turpin 71st, Olivier Currier 84th, and Rousseau 101st. Allan Peramin abandoned the race, but the reason was not known by press time whether it was a mechanical or an accident. It was not known if he will continue the tour.
Sunday afternoon’s time trial results have not yet been published.
In the overall standings, Rivera Guererro is 14th, Parra Suarez is 18th, Turpin 58th, Olivier Currier 62nd and Jayson Rousseau 97th. In the team category, VCG is lying in seventh place after two stages.
