Territorial Cycling Committee presents board and commissions

MARIGOT—The Territorial Cycling Committee of St. Martin opened the cycling season recently by announcing the composition of its board, the members of the 11 different commissions, referees and race officials, as well as introducing the calendar of events for 2016 and its new website.


  The Committee is headed by President Daniel Rémi. Tony Parrondo is First Vice- President, David Francillette Second Vice-President and Ochie Hughes is General Secretary. Rémy Williams is Treasurer and Steve Galvani a member/correspondent.
  A priority of the Committee is the training of a new up and coming generation of young cyclists, both in road racing and mountain bike. Youth categories of all ages are increasingly being added to events.
  A presentation was made of the new website www.cctsm1.com as well as mention of the upcoming events this year. Highlighted events include the Grand Prix ASM, Youth Radio Cycling Challenge, and the Nagico to Nagico cycling race.
  The public meeting in the Chamber of Commerce drew a number of invited elected officials and Presidents of cycling clubs and associations from the Dutch side such as Cyclone and Mo Trouble who offered words of encouragement to the Committee.
  Those present at the opening included Sports Commissioner Alain Gros-Desormeaux, Territorial Councillor for Culture Rollande Questel, First Vice-President Guillaume Arnell, former President of the Collectivite Alain Richardson, Director of Service Jeunesse Priscilla Bade, President of Velo Club de Grand Case (VCG) St. Elmo Arnell, Rigobert Benjamin, Assistant Chef de Cabinet at the Préfecture Jean-Luc Esquerre, and René Arrondell who represented MP Daniel Gibbs.
  Also present were the daughters of the late Claude Tage, the popular sports reporter and avid cycling fan who covered events for St. Martin’s Week.
