Team Power Pack training hard To win Around the Island Relay

CAY HILL--Team Power Pack will be a squad to watch as St. Maarten prepares for this year's Around the Island Relay Race November 11. The group of 11 is youthful. In fact, the group is so young you could add all their ages together and it would barely equal the experience of just one runner on the 70+ team.

That is right Power Pack’s average age is just seven years.
“This fun event really brings young and old together,” said Delphine vanden Eynde who came up with the idea of a true youth team. “I started with this idea of building a children’s team with the principal goal of having fun and creating memories.”
The children train twice with coaches Vasco Daal and Frits Bus. First, they worked on just completing the distance of one leg of the relay which range from 1.4 to 3.06 miles.
Next the children have trained to run hills and have learned to pace themselves to be able to run the distance without walking.
"The more experienced teams will be trembling in their shoes when they see the pack of dare devils in the starting blocks. The youngest of the pack Keani, 6,” said vanden Eynde with a smile.
“The idea is to motivate the children to push their limits, to encourage each other to  have a strong team spirit, to find pleasure in sports and feel proud of what they achieved!.”
Vanden Eynde explained, sport is something essential for the children and for parents on St. Maarten.
“The round the island relay race was the perfect opportunity to do so.”
The team is sponsored by MDO Financial Services and Island Dreams Realty
