Statia nominated for MLB Youth Baseball Clinic in November 2021

ST. EUSTATIUS -- St. Eustatius was nominated as the location for a youth baseball clinic to be held in November 2021. At the invitation of the sponsors, Azieg BV, a group of five persons left the island on Thursday, September 23, 2021 for a meeting in San Diego, California. The Statia team consists of a representative from the St. Eustatius Tourism office, Ms. Sharmin Turner; Social Affairs, Mr.Gregory Melfor; the St. Eustatius Sports Sports Federation representative, Ms. Makeba Mitchell and two young baseball enthusiasts, D'shandre Turner and Marshel Herman.

In the baseball off-season that starts in November, Major League Baseball (MLB) players, instructors and scouts conduct youth baseball clinics and try-out sessions on the Dutch ABC islands. Statia is proud to be included this year and embrace the opportunity which will greatly benefit the youths of the community. Lovers of baseball will be able to develop their baseball ability under the watchful eyes of expert Little League instructors, and have the honor of training with some of the best players in the industry. The result will be a memorable baseball experience and improved skills which they will be able to bring to their own local teams.
From September 23-26, 2021, the Statia group will attend meetings in San Diego conducted by Azieg BV representative, Mr. Arnold Zimmerman, who will be assisted by Major League Baseball professional players, Mr. Juricson Profar and Mr. Ozahaino Albies. The group will be treated to an MLB Padres vs Atlanta Braves game and also enjoy a tour of the San Diego Baseball Park (Pecto Park), witness warm up sessions and have the opportunity to speak with players, Profar & Albies.
The proposed November clinic will not only be beneficial for young baseball players, but it will also be a tourism boost for Statia. A video to promote the baseball clinic is being proposed by the MLB, and having their players and instructors on the island will inevitably result in more people learning about Statia. The authorities enthusiastically welcome this initiative and extend thanks to Azieg BV and Major League Baseball along with the local stakeholders such as NCF.
