ST.EUSTATIUS – The final leg of the SSS (Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten) School Games 2026 was held on St. Eustatius during the weekend of May 30th and 31st, bringing together student athletes from St. Maarten, Saba, and Statia for two days of exciting competition, teamwork, and island pride. Saturday's action featured the Inter-Island School Games Netball tournament, where the three islands battled it out to determine who would take home the championship title.
The opening match saw Saba face St. Maarten in a closely contested game. Both teams matched each other point for point, but Saba eventually secured the victory.
The second game of the night was between Saba and Statia. Statia got off to a strong start, while Saba fought back with excellent defense and teamwork. In the end, Statia held on to claim the win. The final match of the evening featured Statia against St. Maarten. Both teams played with determination and skill, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Statia eventually took control of the game and earned the victory, securing first place in the tournament. When the final standings were announced, Statia emerged as the overall champions, followed by Saba in second place and St. Maarten in third.
On Sunday, May 31st, the spotlight shifted to the Bocce Ball competition for Special Athletes. The first match saw St. Maarten take on Statia, with St. Maarten earning the win. St. Maarten continued their strong performance in the second game against Saba, once again coming out on top. The final match featured Saba and Statia. Saba held the lead for much of the game, but through strong communication and teamwork, Statia rallied late to score crucial points and secure the victory. The overall results of the Special Athletes Bocce Ball competition saw St. Maarten finished in first place, Statia in second, and Saba in third.
The weekend concluded with a small closing ceremony where athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters from all three islands were thanked for their participation and sportsmanship. Organisers praised the efforts of everyone involved in making the final weekend of the SSS School Games 2026 a memorable success.The games once again highlighted the spirit of friendship, competition, and unity that continues to strengthen the bond between the sister islands.
