St. Vincent men look strong in volleyball championship

The Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Junior Championships continued at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium Friday. Defending men's division champions St. Lucia faced Anguilla in the day's opener. St. Lucia won 3-0 after blasting Grenada by the same score Thursday.

Thirteen teams are competing in two divisions of play. The Male division is divided into two pools. In Pool A are St. Lucia, Anguilla, Dominica and Grenada. In pool B are St. Vincent, Antigua and St. Maarten.

In Pool A thus far St. Lucia is first at 2-0, Dominica is second at 1-0, Grenada is 0-1 while Anguilla is 0-2.

"St. Lucia is the defending champions," said Raymond Jacobs, president of the St. Maarten Volleyball Association that is hosting the competition. "But St. Vincent is looking good to win."

In Pool B St. Vincent is tops having beaten St. Maarten 3-2 Thursday and Antigua 3-0 Friday.

The top three teams in both pools advance to the next round of play with the winner of Pool A facing number three in B, Two in each will face two and third in A takes on first in B.

Games are scheduled for 10:00am, noon 4:00, 6:00 and 8:00pm.

In Pool A of the Women's competition are St. Lucia, British Virgin Islands and St. Martin. In Pool B are Antigua, St. Vincent and host St. Maarten. St. Lucia defeated British Virgin Islands and St. Martin 3-0.

In pool B of the women's competition Antigua beat St. Vincent 3-1. Also in the group is host St. Maarten.
