CUL DE SAC--The three St. Maarten U15 cricketers who represented the Leeward Islands in the just-concluded regional youth tournament walked away with encouraging performances after the tournament.
Nathan Edward, Randell Longville and Davenand Singh were the three local players who combined with players from Antigua, Nevis, Montserrat and St. Kitts to make up the Leeward Islands team. They played against their counterparts from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Windward Islands and Trinidad and Tobago at different grounds in Antigua.
A review of the tournament showed that the trio featured prominently in all areas during the tournament. For the Leeward Islands, all three were positioned in the list of top five of batsmen, Edward was joined for second place in the wicket-taking column and Longville as the wicketkeeper, collected the most catches. Edward was the leading scorer for his team. He had an aggregate of 112 runs in five innings with a best score of 60 not out against Barbados. Jewel Andrews from Antigua placed second with an aggregate of 81 runs from five innings with a top score of an unbeaten 48 against Guyana. Akadianto Willet from Nevis was third with 69 runs from four innings. His best score was 31 against Guyana. In fourth position was Longville with 54 runs from five innings. His best score was 20 against Trinidad and Tobago. Longville had the distinguished position of vice-captain of the team.
Singh was in fifth position with 49 runs in four innings. His best score was 25 against Trinidad and Tobago.
The bowling figures for the top three bowlers for the Leeward Islands during the tournament were Willet 36-1-164-6 (four innings), Edward 28-1-152-4 (five innings) and Gian Williams 35-1-211-4 (five innings).
Longville held on to five catches behind the stumps.
The Leeward Islands U15 did not win a match in the tournament and was positioned in the stellar place.
