Wanna B, skippered by local sailor Jan vanden Eynde won the St. Maarten/St. Martin Cup for Most Worthy Performance Overall of the 38th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.
Racing in Caribbean sailing Association class 4 Wanna B faced a fleet of eleven boats in seven races spread out over the three days. Vanden Eynde and crew recorded three first place finishes, one second, one third one fourth and as one race is tossed the one fifth place did not count.
The scores of the place finish are added and low score is the winner. Wanna B, at 8.5 meters long, had 12 points.
Second place went to Solstice from the United States with 16.5 points and third place went to Whistler of Barbados with 19 points.
Light winds plagued the 38th edition of the regatta. Courses had to be shortened and racing delayed.
Other awards included: Most Worthy Charter Boat to Quokka (CSA 2 winner), presented with Performance Yacht Racing Trophy; Lazy Dog (CSA 1 winner) won St Maarten Yacht Club Cup for Most Worthy Performance Sunday; Morticia winner of Port St. Maarten Cup for Fastest Multihull Around Island
was presented D Randy West Trophy by Ian Martin; Kialoa III winner of UTS Cup for Most Worthy performance on Friday and Camiranga-Crioula team won WIB Trophy for Fastest Spinnaker Monohull Around Island.
Maxi
Kialoa III, entered by the K3 Foundation took first place in class. The Maxi boat sailed three races. Kialoa III placed first Friday and Sunday and finished third Saturday for a total of 5 points. Camiranga from Brazil was second on seven points and Durex was third with 13 pints.
Ocean Racing 1
Green Dragon placed second on Friday but finished the three-race series in Ocean racing Class 1 with two bullets to take the top honours. Ambersail was second and the Polish sailing team on Monster Project placed third.
Ocean Racing 2
Akouavi, entered by Chris Swallow of the United Kingdom, won class in Ocean racing 2. They won Friday and Saturday and second on Sunday for four points. Loose Fish, entered by John Niewenhous of the United States, was second.
CSA 1
Retuning sailor Sergio Sagramoso with his Lazy Dog from Puerto Rico won the six-race series in CSA 1. Sagramoso finished with six points. Second place went to St. Maarten sailor Ian Hope-Ross’ finished second with Kick ‘em Jenny 2.
CSA 2
PYR Quokka took top honours in CSA 2. The Christian Reynolds entry finished the six-race series with seven points Pata Negra was second with 10.
CSA 3
Chris Body’s El Ocaso won CSA 3 with 10 points. Second in the six-race series was Canada’s Touch2Play Racing with 13 points. Rob Butler’s Touch2Play crew wore pink in support of Breast Cancer Research.
Melges 24
Frits Bus skippering Team Island Water World dominated class. They won all six races for five points. Second went to Gill race Team.
Bareboats
There were two Bareboat classes. The 18 boats competed in five races. KHS&S Contractors swept the fleet with five points. Second overall was Autoboat with 21 points.
Offshore Multihull
WOW from Great Britain won the three race Offshore Multihull Class with four points. Second overall was Morticia.
CSA Multihull
Petr Kochnev’s Belle entry won CSA Multihull with five points from three races. Platin was second.
Island Time Class
Island Time Class was won by Hank Schmitt on Avocation with eight points. Amarone was second.
