ST. LUCIA-- Eighteen year old Stephan Duzong from St. Maarten won a gold medal at the Creole Boxing Tournament in the St. Lucia Saturday. Duzong competed in the Junior Division Middle weight class (68-75kg.)
He faced St. Lucia fighter Denelson Jn Marie. The fight was stopped in the second round by the St. Lucia coach throwing in the towel just 1:35 minutes into the round.
“This was both fighters first boxing event,” said coach Duzong. “Stephan was just too technical and a better fighter than his St. Lucia opponent.”
Orange Grove Pharmacy sponsored Stephan.
Also competing in St. Lucia was Saba fighter Ludwig Charles in the Welterweight (64-69 kg) Youth division. He returned home with a won Silver medal.
Charles lost to Roderiquez Frederick from Dominica by split decision.
“It was a very good fight and both boxers brought their best fort, said Duzong.
Coaches in the corner for both boxers were Earl Duzong from St. Maarten and Harry Lovell from Saba.
Both boxers next scheduled fights will be at the Battle of the Islands on St. Maarten September 2
“We are very proud of our boxers,” said Duzong. “We will be working hard and looking for more support from the Business sector for our upcoming event.”
