Sint Maarten U15 Baseball Team Secures Third Place at Kingdom Games

WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao — The U15 baseball team of Sint Maarten delivered a commendable performance at the Kingdom Games, earning a well-deserved third-place finish after a week of competitive play from April 28 to May 2. Participating under the youth development program ‘Alleen Jij Bepaalt Wie Je Bent’, the team showcased not only athletic ability but also resilience and teamwork against strong opponents from Bonaire, Curaçao, and the Netherlands. The tournament was also attended by Prince Pieter Christiaan van Oranje Nassau and Governor de Kort of Curaçao. Sint Maarten’s campaign began with a challenging opening game against Bonaire, where the team suffered its only loss of the tournament.

Despite a determined effort, they were unable to overcome their opponents, setting the stage for a crucial response in the following matches. That response came swiftly. On the second day, Sint Maarten rebounded with a strong and disciplined victory over Curaçao, demonstrating improved coordination and confidence on both offense and defense. The highlight of the tournament came on the third day, when the team delivered a standout performance against the Netherlands. In what spectators described as a masterclass display, Sint Maarten combined sharp fielding, effective pitching, and timely hitting to secure an impressive win. The team was guided by coaches Jamal Thomas, Lenrick Pinto, and Edmund Williams, with coordination by Pieter Snijder.

Their leadership played a key role in keeping the players focused and motivated throughout the tournament. Reflecting on the team’s journey, Coach Thomas highlighted the players’ growth. “After a tough start, the team showed real character. They stayed committed, supported each other, and finished strong. This is exactly what the program stands for,” he said. The Kingdom Games continue to provide a valuable platform for young athletes across the Dutch Caribbean and the Netherlands, promoting personal development through sport. For Sint Maarten, the third-place finish is more than just a result—it is a testament to progress, determination, and the promising future of its young baseball talent.
