Seventh-Day Adventist undefeated in School Netball Championship

PHILIPSBURG--Seventh-Day Adventist defeated Dr. Martin Luther King School in the continuation of the Interscholastic Primary School Netball Championship 2023 at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium on Sunday. Seven games were played on day two of the competition.


In the first match of the afternoon Seventh-Day Adventist dominated King School from the onset by scoring 8 points in the first quarter and scoring in total 19 points to 0 against. Goal attack Nascika Richards, Goal shooter Gelay Justin and substitute Goal Attack Shinaya Cetoute scored respectively 9, 8 and 2 goals. The SDA defense kept the offense of MLK in check not allowing them to score no points.
In the second match St. Dominic played MAC BFM. This match was a tight one that was defined by good defense by both teams and can be seen from the low score. The score per quarter was St. Dominic-MAC BFM 1-1, 4-3, 4-5 and 6-8. For St. Dominic Goal attack Michaila Lake scored 5 and Goals Shooter Aria Sam 1, For MAC BFM the Goal Shooter Jaliayah Philips scored 6 points and Goal Attack Verona Illidge scored 1.
The third match was between M.G. de Weever and MAC JAG. MAC JAG came out strong and scored 19 points and allowed M.G. de Weever only 3 points. For MAC JAG Goal Attack Tyler Timothy scored 12 points and Goal Shooter Ruth Paul 7 goals. For de Weever Goal Shooter Adriantely Doran scored the only 3 points.
Match number 4 was between Sr. Marie Laurence and Leonald Connor. Leonald Connor came out hungry for a win after losing the previous week. They some tactical changes by starting with Teshagay Bromfield in Goal Attack position to support Goal Shooter Trinitie Bell. This worked out well with them scoring respectively 6 and 9 points to beat Sr. Marie Laurence 15-2. Abigail Smith Goal attack for Marie Laurence scored the only 2 points.
Match number 5 was between Oranje School and Ruby Labega. Both teams are new comers to Netball championship and came out gingerly to play. The low scoring match was won by Ruby Labega 4-2. For Ruby Labega Goal Attack Jessica Salmon and Goal shooter Crismery Guzman scored respectively 3 and 1 points. Oranje School’s Goal Shooter Weslyn Schmidt scored 2 and Goal Attack Nyla Illis scored 1.
The sixth match featured Hillside Christian playing Sr. Borgia. An inspired Hillside Christian School came out full force to win 19-9 with Goal Attack Aljenee Henry scoring 10 and Goal Shooter Sina Delice scoring 9 points. For Sr. Borgia Goal Shooter Kayla Thomas and Goal Attack Zephaniah Busropan scored respectively 5 and 4 points. Hillside had the slight lead early and as the partials per quarter show and were Hillside-Borgia 4-2. 10-5, 14-7 and 19-9.
In the seventh and last match of the day Ruby Labega met M.G. de Weever. Ruby Labega won their second match for the day 8-3. For Ruby Labega Goal shooter Jessica Salmon scored 5 and Crismery Guzman 3 goals. Goal Shooter Adriantely Doran scored 2 and Goal attack Chenoa Kuiper scored 1 point.
After two Sundays of play Henry, Aljenee (Hillside Christian) leads the scorers list with 18 goals, followed by her team mate Delice, Sina with 16.
Game day three is set for February 12.
