Polish Sailors sail in support of youth

SIMPSON BAY--Sailors from around the world are arriving on the Friendly Island to race in the 38th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. One such team hails from Poland and sails with the Yacht Club SOPOT.

They will race on the Volvo 70 Monster Project. This will be the third time the club has sailors compete in St. Maarten.
The crew consists of five professional crew and 15 club members.
“St. Maarten is a beautiful place to sail,” said Rafal Sawicki. He continued, “It’s a lot warmer than back home.” He reported the outside temperature in Poland is below freezing.
This year in addition to racing, the Yacht Club has started a charity project to help raise funds for the reconstruction of a sports training area at the St. Maarten Little league Ballpark on Pond Island and home construction with K-1 Britannia.
