NV GEBE sponsors Promising Athletes

PHILIPSBURG--Three of the seven athletes slated to represent St. Maarten at the Central
America and Caribbean (CAC) Games from July 18 to August 3 will not be able to compete.

“Sailing is going with only one,” said St. Maarten Sports and Olympic Federation president Aartwichgt Bell. “The other three are not, because some other countries failed to comply with deadlines.” Thus, the second sailing event was cancelled.
Helping make the trip possible for the athletes in the federation’s Promising Athletes program is NV GEBE.
“NV GEBE is honored to support these athletes who represent the best in their sport and the best of our country,” said the Managing Board of the utility company. “This sponsorship highlights our commitment to the success of the athletes, along with our broader commitment to sports on St. Maarten.”
St. Maarten will participate in Cycling, Judo, Swimming and Sailing.
The St. Maarten delegation was slated to be 25 strong, as the team is expected travel on two separate dates. The members for the Swimming and Sailing disciplines will leave on July 16 and the members of the Cycling and Judo teams will travel to Columbia on July 24.
Apart from this sponsorship, NV GEBE has sponsored the St. Maarten Sports and Olympic Federation since 2016 making their travels to Cuba, Cost Rica, Argentina and Dominican Republic, in preparation of the CAC Games, possible.
The sponsorship marks the latest effort by NV GEBE to support sports on St. Maarten.
