West Indies U19 World Cup cricketer Isra-el Morton posed with his parents Semona Morton and Brian Morton at the Princess Juliana Airport on Monday.
AIRPORT— St. Maarten’s Isra-el Morton joined the West Indies Under-19 squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6.
Morton is the third player from the island to feature in an Under-19 World Cup, following Keacy Carty (2016) and Nathan Edward (2022 and 2024). He will wear jersey number 37, in honor of his cousin who represented the West Indies with the same t-shirt. St. Maarten is also 37-square-miles which shows his pride in representing the island also.
His selection reflects years of dedication and consistent performance at the youth level.
The 15-member West Indies squad, strengthened by strong showings in recent international series against England and Sri Lanka, has been drawn in Group D with South Africa, Afghanistan, and Tanzania. West Indies will open their campaign against Tanzania on January 15.
Morton’s journey underscores the growing impact of St. Maarten players in regional cricket and the potential for young Caribbean talent to compete on the world stage.
