Manuels and van Vliet lighting up the court

CAY HILL—Fifteen matches have been played in the St. Maarten Tennis Club’s annual tournament at the Raoul Illidge Tennis Pavilion.  Thus far Jessica van Vliet is dominating in the Women’s Singles and Paul Manuels is a force to be reckoned with in the Men’s over 40.

The tournament features women singles, men singles and men 40+. On a regular day, the general atmosphere on the courts is always rather friendly, but for the past week, the points really counted!
The women singles group 1, consisting of three courageous players, was won by Jessica van Vliet, who won both her group matches in two sets.
In Men 40+ group 1, Paul Manuels won both against Mehrdad Zinatbakhsh and Joeri Essed, who made their opponent work hard until the last ball in their matches.
Next Matches he will be playing against Martijn Eerland and Hans de Bruyne. The last was too strong for his opponents in group 2, he won against Ajamou Baly, Roeland Zwanikken and Paul van den Hoogen.
The President of the SMTC Roeland Zwanikken was playing against the treasurer Paul van den Hoogen. This was a nice match but in the end Paul won 6-2, 7-5.
The tournament will go on till this weekend, when the finals are played.
