CUL DE SAC--The Methodist Agogic Centre Comprehensive Secondary Education (MAC CSE) overcame an embarrassing start of the Inter-Secondary School Cricket Tournament to defeat St. Maarten Academy-PSVE on Wednesday afternoon.
On the opening day of the tournament MAC CSE was bowled out for a paltry eight and then defeated by six wickets to PSVE. MAC High; nevertheless, put their mark on the tournament with a surprising 63 run win over PSVE. Captain of the winning team, Raheem Atkinson led from the front with an attractive 41 (4x6, 1x4). He helped his team post 97 all out in 14 overs.
In reply, PSVE which was missing some of their players folded for 34 off 6.2 overs. Waheed Labord collected the key wickets of the explosive Kemar Brooks and Captain of PSVE Durvejai Narine for two and one respectively.
For PSVE, Regan Daniel top scored with 20 (2x6, 1x4).
In the second match of the day, St. Maarten Academy defeated MAC High by 54 runs.
St. Maarten Academy players scored a below par 96 all out according to their lofty standards in which they have scored over 170 runs in the first two matches.
Captain of St. Maarten Academy Iassie Gabriel Clay was once again the main scorer with 48 (5x6, 4x4). The other batsman in double figure was Govinda Lalchand with 10 (1x6). MAC CSE was bowled out for 42. The captain was the only player in double figures with 14 (1x4, 1x6).
Kevin Vidal and Jessie Degoo were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets a piece in their one over spell.
St. Maarten Academy has won all its matches and has advanced to the final which is set for Friday.
MAC CSE and PSVE have registered one win each. They will play against each other in the final preliminary match today.
The winner of that match will take on St. Maarten Academy in the final on Friday from 3:00pm.
On Friday, Cricket St. Maarten will present individual trophies to the player with the most runs and most wickets and team trophies to the champion, sub- champion and the most disciplined team.
