L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium gets a new multipurpose floor and interior facelift

PHILIPSBURG--The National Sports Institute (NSI) has completed the replacement of the multipurpose sports floor at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium, just in time for a busy calendar of

international tournaments. The first event will be the Paradise Showdown U15 Basketball Tournament this Saturday, followed by the Battle of the Islands Netball Tournament starting October 24th.

The new floor, which will serve basketball, volleyball, netball, badminton, and futsal, is certified by FIBA, FIVB, and BWF. Meeting international standards was a key requirement when sourcing the

replacement surface. The floor combines long-term resilience, easy maintenance, and sustainability with excellent ball bounce, glare-free visibility, and optimal playability. Built on a bonded P2P

shockpad with self-leveling polyurethane layers, it provides comfort and durability.

To reflect national pride, the final colors and line markings were carefully selected, and a “Sint Maarten” stencil has been placed directly on the floor.

The auditorium has also undergone a broader facelift in the first phase - beginning in July, focused on the interior. More than 150 gallons of paint were used to refresh the

space, with colors inspired by the Sint Maarten flag, creating a brighter atmosphere and improved lighting.

The changing rooms, concession stand, and restrooms were also upgraded, while additional repairs included the installation of new backboard paddings, team benches, the replacement of light

fixtures, and repairs to the bleachers.

Although the venue has been significantly improved, further works are still needed. The painting of the exterior and other repairs will be carried out through the NRPB/World

Bank sports facilities repairs project, and the Government of Sint Maarten has initiated steps toward the installation of an HVAC cooling system.
