MARIGOT—It was a double triumph for father and son on Sunday when Patricio “Blade” Carty won the Seniors cycling race in Marigot and his son Jahkim won the Pupilles category (9-10 years) in the afternoon’s Under 16 Challenge.
Jahkim clearly has his dad’s genes and he is just one of a crop of talented young kids shaping the future of cycling in St. Martin.
Sunday’s race was organised by Association Sportif de Marigot (ASM) and sponsored by S&D Snack Bar and José BBQ.
The emphasis though was on the afternoon’s Under 16 challenge which consisted of some six different age categories. Most of the younger categories completed a short course in Marigot except for the 15-16 year olds who did one lap to Lowlands and back and a circuit in Marigot.
Adelio Brooks (VCG) won the Cadet’s category (15-16 years) and Kenrick Cozier was first in the Minimes category (13-14 years). Other first place winners were Adonija Romney (ASM) in the Benjamin’s category (11-12 years), Jahkim Carty (ASM) in Pupilles (9-10 years), Demitri Niles (Anguilla) in Poussins (7-8 years), and Asthan Benitez (VCG) in pre-license category (4-6 years).
The morning’s 85K race for Seniors was won by “Blade” Carty (ASM), Hasani Hennis (Anguilla) was second, and “short man” Osbourne finished in third place. The race consisted of five laps to Lowlands and back but with riders passing through Lowtown, St. James, Rue de Hollande, and the Marigot waterfront.
Seniors and Juniors completed the full circuit but Masters did three laps of the course.
Masters was won by Timothy Richardson (Anguilla), Romeo Lake was second and Dick Luttekes third.
Hasani Hennis was the top junior (second overall) and Bannis Ridge second placed Junior (fourth overall).
