Island Water World shines at BVI Spring Regatta

TORTOLA--Team Island Water representing St. Maarten won the IC 24 one design class at the BVI Spring Regatta.

After three days of racing in the Sir Francis Drake Channel off Tortola Island Water World was tied for first place with one of the Caribbean’s best match racers, Collin Rathburn, from the British Virgin Islands.
“After 13 races the teams ended with the same amount of points, but Team Island Water World took the top spot after the tie-breaker having more first place finishes,” explained Island Water World skipper Frits Bus.
Racing started Friday with perfect Caribbean sailing weather. The skies were clear with winds from 12-14 knots.
“After the first day of racing Team Island Water World ended with a small lead after 6 races, forcing Collins’ Team Aeropostal to resort to different tactics,” said Bus.
Saturday the winds slowly dropped to 5-10 knots.
Team Island Water World won class back in 2013 and 2014.
Next up for Team IWW will be La Voile in St. Barths. Closer to home the team will switch back to their familiar Melges 24.
