Hunt defies on-stage cancer symptoms to win latest Pro Figure competition

MARIGOT—Professional Figure competitor Florencia Hunt won the overall Pro Figure category at her latest competitive outing despite an unexpected onset of cancer-related symptoms while on stage.

She competed for the first time in the 2021 Organisation of Competitive Bodybuilders (OCB) Cantonsville Conquer show held in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 8, some two and a half weeks from winning her last competition, the short gap between the two events confirming that she was in great shape.
“It went well in terms of me winning but it did not go as smooth as I hoped it would as I was having some medical issues that day that I was trying to work through,” she explained.” Some of the symptoms were affecting me on stage during posing like losing balance and equilibrium. I was trembling and just having an episode. I just kept breathing, calming myself down, and focused harder.”
Some 14 girls competed in the Pro Division divided into two groups A and B, with the top three in each advancing to the overall. Hunt won the B category and then went on to win the overall title.
“I’m looking at possibly doing a big show in October but it depends how I am feeling since having this episode in Baltimore,” she disclosed. “If I don’t feel well then I won’t be doing it so it’s a matter of playing it by ear until then. I’m someone who tends to jump into anything but regardless of what I do I’m still going to be in some pain. I just try to hold it together and do my best. For me dealing with it is mental. I need to have a lot of distractions especially when I’m going through health issues.”
St. Martin-born Hunt, now living in the USA, was a former track athlete and competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She is a cancer survivor and continues to be an inspiration to many.
