MARIGOT--Gilbert Rousseau, President of the J.C.O. Cycling Club, was elected President of the Saint Martin Territorial Cycling Committee at an election held on Saturday, January 10, in Marigot. He succeeds outgoing committee President Eric Hélan.

President of the Regional Cycling Committee of the islands of Guadeloupe Frédéric Théobald was appointed provisional administrator of the Territorial Cycling Committee of Saint-Martin following long standing disagreements between the heads of the clubs. Three clubs expressed their dissatisfaction with the committee and requested its dismissal by the Federation which was subsequently validated and a new election called.

In a message to all cyclists in Saint Martin, Rousseau said: “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the eleven candidates, as well as to all the members who supported the efforts of the new Saint Martin Cycling Committee team.

“After more than eight months of working together, constructive discussions and consultation in the interests of cycling in Saint Martin, this collective dynamic has enabled me to take on the role of President of the Saint Martin Cycling Committee today.

“I would like to share with you my determination to take on this challenge alongside you, in a spirit of unity, responsibility and commitment, so that concrete and sustainable actions can be implemented for the development and fulfilment of our young Saint Martin cyclists.

“The year 2026 will be a pivotal year, marked by hard work, restructuring and rebuilding, with a clear and unifying goal: to put Saint Martin cycling back on track with common sense, transparency and the general interest, in the service of our youth.

“On behalf of the entire team, I would also like to thank Frédéric Théobald, President of the Cycling Committee of the Northern Islands of Guadeloupe, for conducting this election with rigour, transparency and impartiality, ensuring the smooth running of the dismissal procedure and the presidential election of the Saint Martin Territorial Cycling Committee.

“Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Eric Hélan, former president of the Saint Martin Cycling Committee, for his work and commitment to cycling in Saint Martin during his term of office. With commitment and responsibility, a new chapter is beginning for cycling in Saint Martin. Now, let's get down to business.”
