CST Opens Up 2023 with WIB Pentathlon Meet

COLE BAY-- Windward Islands Bank sponsored Carib Swim Team’s first hosted swim meet of 2023, a Pentathlon format. The Pentathlon meet is different than most meets, in that instead of awarding each event for each age group, each swimmer swims five events and the winner is the lowest sum of all five events. Also, CST and WIB awarded each age, instead of age groups.

Overall winners were Tye Hartgers (Super Splash Swim Team - 6 year old boys), Charlotte Challenger (CST – 7 year old girls), Kimaia Stephen (CST – 8 year old girls), Xam Hartgers (SSST – 8 year old boys), Declan Boyd (CST - 9 year old boys), Darina Smirnova (CST – 10 year old girls), Luuk Vinke (CST – 10 year old boys), D’Anka Burgan (CST – 11 year old girls), Kjeld Van Der Meer (CST – 11 year old boys), Daan Vinke (CST – 12 year old boys), Gigi Cai (CST – 13 year old girls), Joey Schvartz (CST – 13 year old boys), Saphir Thomas (CST – 14 year old girls), Nihal Chugani (CST – 14 year old boys), Nikki Grandtner (CST – 15 year old girls), Matias Piazza (CST – 15 year old boys), Emma Croes (SSST – 16 year old girls), Brandon Girier Dufournier (CST – 16 year old boys), Shahani Dhrishti (SSST – 17 year old girls), and Jayden Helsdingen (SSST – 17 year old boys).
Three Carib Swim Team swimmers combined for 12 new team records. Saphir Thomas achieved three new 15 year old girls records in 50 backstroke (34.03), 50 butterfly (32.97), and 100 Individual Medley (1:16.80). Joining her also with three new team records was Joey Schvartz, 13 years, achieving the marks in 50 backstroke (30.87), 50 breaststroke (35.19), and 100 Individual Medley (1:08.22). Finally, Matias Piazza (15 years) swam six new team records, with new marks set in 50 breaststroke (33.47 – also a new Senior record), 50 butterfly (27.18), 50 freestyle (25.57 – once again also a new Senior record), and 100 Individual Medley (1:05.31).
Additionally, several new time standards were achieved. New ‘B’ times were made by Shaniqua Schladt (50 free – her first!), Declan Boyd (100 IM), Nihal Chugani (50 free), Henri Martin (50 back, 50 fly, and 100 IM – his first, second and third!), Daan Vinke (50 back), and Luuk Vinke (50 fly). CST also had four new ‘BB’ times by Caithlyn Challenger (50 breast and 100 IM), Darina Smirnova (50 fly), and Nicolas Piazza (50 free – his first!).
Carib Swim Team will next be hosting their annual Sweetheart Classic on February 11-12, this year sponsored by Marine Management and Consulting.
