Cricket St. Maarten host successful Summer Camp

CUL DE SAC--The summer vacation is quickly coming to an end, but a group of boys have discovered a new sport to love. It is cricket. Cricket St. Maarten hosted a summer camp from July 5 to July 30, to which a total of 44 boys participated in the camp.

There was a morning session from 9:00am to 12:00 and then an afternoon session from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Some of the boys came in the morning and some in the afternoon session.
Cricket St. Maarten had five coaches working on a rotation basis for the during of the camp. Daily, the participants did warm-up activities, batting, bowling and fielding drills. At the end of each skill session, the boys played a match to demonstrate the skills learned for that day.
New life skills and attitudes were learned while new friendships were developed that possibly last a life time.
Some of the reactions from the boys gave an insight into what was learned during the summer camp.
Suraj Vaswani, who demonstrated good fast bowling abilities as well as technically sound batting technique, stated that he enjoyed the camp. ‘The cricket camp was so enjoyable. I learned so many things.’ Vaswani said. ‘When will the new team begin?’ he inquired.
Jordan Anderson showed very good batting skills during the camp. He stated, ‘I was able to develop my batting skills. I love to bat. I want to be a great batsman, so the camp was beneficial for me, especially the batting drills.’ the skilful left-handed batsman stated.
Keith Harry was happy to attend the camp every day because of all the activities. ‘The fielding, batting, and bowling drills were challenging at times. Especially the fielding drills, which made us run and catch a lot. The snacks and lunches were delicious. I enjoyed that the most. I wished the camp could continue for a longer time because everything was good at the camp.’ he said.
A cricket academy will continue for the advanced pupils on a daily basis from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the cricket field.
