SIMPSON BAY—West Indies outstanding cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul was honoured by Imran Mc Sood Amjad (Mac) for his dedication to West Indies cricket which spanned over a 20-year period.
Chanderpaul who is on St. Maarten for the Cricket4Life Twenty20 tournament was gifted a Rolex watch last evening by Mc Sood, who is presently the Chairman of Cricket St. Maarten.
The evening was graced with the presence of Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Wycliffe Smith, Minister of Justice Cornelius De Weever, Members of Parliament Sylveria Jacobs, Rolando Brison, Ardwell Irion and Chanel Brownbill, local sponsors, local and international cricketers and many cricket fans.
Also honoured with MOVADO watches were Adam Sanford and Christopher Barnwell for their representation on the West Indies Cricket Team.
Chanderpaul, who played 164 test matches, scored 11,867 runs at an average of 51.4. He also played 268 One-Day International matches, scored 8778 runs at an average of 41.6. His illustrious career lasted from 1994 to 2015 (21 years). He is presently the most capped West Indian cricketer.
Chanderpaul was thankful for meeting Mc Sood and Robin Ramrattan again. He was gracious towards Adam Sanford for organizing such a tournament.
He reminisced on his first visit to St. Maarten with the Guyana national cricket team in 2004 when he had a wonderful time on the island. He also stated that when Hurricane Irma hit the island, he was in England tracking the storm and was constantly messaging Mac and Robin to find out about the storm.
The outstanding West Indian batsman is slated to play for the Adam Sanford All Stars XI against the Anguilla Tigers at 2:00pm today at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark.
