PHILIPSBURG--Team Sint Maarten delivered strong performances in the Netherlands after the cancellation of the 2026 Dutch National Championships, with athletes competing instead in an alternative qualification meet.
Carlos Brison Cainez won the Under-20 800 metres in 1:51.39 and also captured first place in the 400 metres in 49.40, recording victories in both events.
Fourteen-year-old Nahjah Wyatte Munoz also impressed while competing against older Under-20 athletes. He finished the 800 metres in 1:53.59 and the 400 metres in 52.79.
Wyatte Munoz's performances demonstrated that he continues to be among the Caribbean's brightest young middle-distance talents.
Coach Abdule Wattley praised both athletes for their hard work and determination and highlighted what he described as a bright future for athletics in Sint Maarten.
Wattley also thanked those who supported the team's participation in the competition.
The coach extended special thanks to NK Wattley and Stacy-Ann Taylor for their support throughout the events.
