MARIGOT--St. Martin’s top bodybuilding bikini champion Josephine Elvina Matthew is due to represent the island at the Ms. and Mr. American International Federation of Body Builders (IFBB) Cup to be held in Bogota, Colombia, on February 16 to 18, 2018.
She will also go on to compete in the IFBB Diamond Cup, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on February 23 to 27, 2018.
After a successful representation at the 3rd Annual World Fitness Championships in Biarritz, France, in December 2017, where St. Martin left a big impression on the world of bodybuilding, the Bodybuilding and Fitness Association of St. Martin (BFASM) will be making its debut, with top bikini athlete Josephine Elvina Matthew, at two of the first IFBB Pro Championships of the bodybuilding season.
In Bogota, Colombia, she will face off against some serious Latin countries. At the next stop in Santo Domingo, most of the Caribbean countries will be participating.
“Elvina Matthew is one determined and courageous athlete who is always willing to make that sacrifice to represent her country,” stated BFASM President François Carty. “This is what we have been preparing and training hard for despite the difficult challenges after Hurricane Irma. We have taken good note of how Pro Athletes must always be competitive, we have opened doors to the international world of bodybuilding for our local athletes and we are determined to make St. Martin proud by turning our athletes in to professionals.
“But none of this could have been possible without the support of some small locally-owned businesses and our strong supporters despite the major set-back from hurricane Irma and for that we are very grateful to them and will publicly thank them on our return.
“On the same note our 8th Annual St. Martin Inter-Island Championship will not be held this year 2018, due to the damage sustained from Hurricane Irma to our outstanding venue at Maho Casino Royale. But we are already preparing for a much bigger and better event for 2019,” Carty disclosed. “We don't stop moving."
