MARIGOT--Avenir Sportif Club de Saint-Martin (ASCSM) organised its traditional first race of the season, Les Foulées de la Rentrée on Sunday, the event attracting over 80runners in different age categories for the 5K course through Marigot.
Triathlete Gregory Pigeon took first place on the podium in the men's race, finishing in 18:41 and in the women's race, it was Valérie Maniez who finished first in 22: 47. There was an excellent performance from Désirée Gamiette, a young athlete from ASCSM who finished third overall from all categories combined in 23: 55.
The 2K course in which some 30 youngsters participated departed from the Galisbay car park to the commercial harbour and back. First place went to Micha Cowan in the boys in a time of 8:33 and Charday Richardson was first for the girls in 8:54.
Runners on the island are now switching their attention to preparing for the November 11 around-the-island-relay race and getting teams together. ASCSM expressed its appreciation to all the volunteers who made the event a success.
