Serena survives scare from Kanepi to reach quarters

NEW YORK-- Serena Williams survived a scare from giant-killer Kaia Kanepi to claim a rollercoaster 6-0 4-6 6-3 win on Sunday and move into the U.S. Open quarter-finals, a step closer to a record- equalling 24th career Grand Slam title.

Nadal survives Russian threat to advance at U.S. Open

NEW YORK- - Rafa Nadal has feasted on Russian opposition in the past but Karen Khachanov nearly served up a major U.S. Open upset on Friday, forcing the world number one to rally for a breathless 5-7 7-5 7-6(7) 7-6(3) third round win.
Not since 2011 has Nadal lost to a Russian but his string of 16 victories stretching back to 2011 looked ready to end along with his U.S. Open title defence when big-hitting Khachanov came out with guns blazing.

Hamilton wins as Vettel spins in Ferrari's backyard

MONZA, Italy- - Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton equalled Michael Schumacher's record of five Italian Grand Prix wins on Sunday and left Ferrari feeling the pain yet again in their own backyard.
