Curaçao celebrates goal in Costa Rica
~Comebacks and late winners highlighted the opening night of League A~
MIAMI--League A in the 2026/2027 Concacaf Nations League kicked off on Thursday with Dominican Republic, Haiti and Curaçao getting the first wins in Group A.
Dominican Republic 3, Nicaragua 2
The Dominican Republic kicked off their Group A campaign with a 3-2 win over Nicaragua at Estadio Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros in Dominican Republic.
Morschel Mörschel started the goal count for the hosts by scoring the first goal in the 5’, sending a left foot shot to the back of the net. The Quisqueyanos doubled their lead in the 15’ thanks to a left foot shot in the box by Mariano Díaz.
Nicaragua pulled one back in the 40’ thanks to a free kick by Juan Pérez. Byron Bonilla found the equalizer for the Central Americans in the 84’ after sending a header to the back of the net.
The Dominican Republic found the winner in the last minutes of the aggregate time, in the 90+5’, with Pablo Rosario sending a right foot banger past the Nicaraguan defense to seal their first Group A win.
Haiti 3, Trinidad and Tobago 2
Haiti continued Group A action with a 3-2 score against Trinidad and Tobago at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
Fabrice Picault was the author of the first goal for Haiti in the match in the 23’ sending a header to the back of the net. Wayne Frederick found the equalizer for Trinidad & Tobago through a right foot shot in the area in the 31’.
Levi García kicked off the second half by giving the Soca Warriors the lead in the 59’. Haiti pushed to get back in the game until the end, doing so after Garven Metusala scored their second goal of the match in the 90+1’.
Wilson Isidor sealed the win for Haiti in the last play of the match, getting the ball past the Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper in the 90+8’.
Costa Rica 3, Curaçao 4
Curaçao completed a 3-4 comeback against Costa Rica for the final Group A match on Thursday at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá in San Juan de Tibás, Costa Rica
A right foot shot in the box by Orlando Sinclair gave Los Ticos the lead in the 4’. Carlos Mora doubles the lead for the hosts in the 24’ with a left foot shot.
Mora scored the third goal for Costa Rica, and his second goal of the night, in the 45+1’ with a right foot banger from outside the area.
Curaçao didn’t stop pushing to find the net, Kenji Gorré pulling one back in the 62’. The “Blue Wave” found a second goal in the match in the 66’ through a left foot shot from the edge of the area by Tahith Chong. Gorré secured his brace and the third one for Curaçao in the 78’.
Curaçao completed the comeback in the 82’ thanks to a right foot shot in the box by Jordi Paulina, sitting in the top of Group A table after League A Matchday 1.
