GEORGETOWN, Guyana--The bodies of a pregnant woman and her fiancé, who disappeared while swimming at Unity Beach, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday, were recovered on Tuesday, bringing a tragic end to an extensive search operation.

The News Room was reliably informed that the bodies were found shortly after midday. Police ranks are at the scene conducting investigations following the recovery.

The discovery ends nearly two days of searching for 20-year-old Lyodisa Waldron, known as “Loyda,” and her fiancé, 31-year-old Andri Francis, called “Bobby,” both of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara.

According to police reports, the couple was among a group of persons visiting Unity Beach on Sunday afternoon when Waldron reportedly drifted further out into the Atlantic Ocean and called for assistance.

Francis reportedly entered the water in an attempt to rescue her, but both were overtaken by strong currents and disappeared beneath the waves.

Following reports of the incident, a joint search operation was launched involving ranks from the Mahaica Police Station and members of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard.
