ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA--The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus has been named recipient of the Ellucian LAC Visionary Leadership and Outstanding Award for its successful deployment of Ellucian SaaS, becoming the first institution in the English-speaking Caribbean to achieve this distinction. The award was presented to The UWI Five Islands Team at the Ellucian Latin America and the Caribbean User Conference held in Cancun, Mexico from September 9 -11.
The campus completed its implementation of the baseline components in just six months, joining a select group of pioneering institutions across Latin America and the Caribbean that have successfully launched Ellucian SaaS.
"This achievement represents more than a technological upgrade – it demonstrates the campus’ commitment to innovation and excellence in higher education" said Professor C. Justin Robinson, Campus Principal. "Our team's dedication and focus have positioned The UWI Five Islands as a leader in high quality education delivery especially in the area of technology services, and we are excited about the possibilities this opens for our students, staff and the wider Caribbean."
The successful deployment was led by Prof. Robinson and Campus Registrar Dr. Camille Samuel, along with a dedicated implementation team from several departments across the campus. The campus plans to launch Banner Apply this September, with additional components scheduled for rollout through the 2025/2026 academic year.
Raul Vega, Director of Global Success Services at Ellucian, noted in a LinkedIn post that this implementation could serve as a model for institutional transformation across the Caribbean and Latin America region and beyond.
The UWI Five Islands Campus currently has a student population of over 1300 students studying a variety of degrees at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
