PARAMARIBO, Suriname -- Jairzinho Rozenstruik, also known as “Bigi Boi,” currently the most prolific MMA fighter from Suriname, has been arrested in suspected neighbourhood dispute in Pembroke Pines, Florida, local news media have reported. The 37-year-old fighter has been held in Broward County jail since Monday, Florida, on suspicion of domestic battery and false imprisonment.

According to the Broward County Sherrif’s Office registration, Rozenstruik is being held under suspicion of two criminal offences: domestic battery and false imprisonment of a person.

Both charges are currently listed in the system as “pending trial,” indicating that the legal process is ongoing and that no court ruling has yet been issued.

In addition to the criminal charges, the registration shows a third and significant designation: an “immigration hold,” which was placed on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. In practice, such a hold means that even if bail is posted, release is not guaranteed, as immigration authorities may intervene and take custody or initiate further proceedings.

Initial reports had been that Rozenstruik’s arrest regarded his life partner, but she has since stated via Facebook that the incident did not involve her. In a message to local Suriname media, she explained that “Bigi Boi” was arrested after an argument with a neighbour escalated, prompting police intervention. According to her statement, bail has since been paid, while the further handling of the case is pending.

Rozenstruik has made a name for himself in recent years as an MMA fighter. He started out as a kickboxer in Paramaribo, training in local gyms during his teens. From there, he moved onto the international kickboxing circuit, fighting in promotions in Europe and Asia, including bouts in organizations like Superkombat and Glory-affiliated events. Only later in his career did he make the strategic pivot to mixed martial arts (MMA), leveraging his elite striking as his core competitive advantage.

After being released by the UFC in February 2024, where he had competed since 2019, his absence from elite competition was brief. In June 2025, he made his debut with the Dirty Boxing Championship (DBX). On June 14, 2025, Rozenstruik won his first DBX bout against American fighter Victor Cardoso. Momentum continued on August 29, when he knocked out Rakim Cleveland.

Just two days before his arrest, Rozenstruik appeared in a video on social media showing him alongside American rapper Kodak Black, who had visited Rozenstruik’s barbecue restaurant in Florida.
