PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad--Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Sean Sobers wrote to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) today, reaffirming the country’s support for the United States after its extraction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from Caracas yesterday.

He also referenced a commitment to peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela.

The letter written by Sobers dated January 4, stated that the government of Trinidad and Tobago had taken note of the developments and repeated Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s claim that the country was not a participant.

Sobers claimed the country maintains a “strong partnership and fraternal relations” with both the people of Venezuela and the US. He also said the country had a commitment to the US; mission of dismantling transnational crime in the region.

“The Government of Trinidad and Tobago wishes to reaffirm and underscore its commitment to the United States of Americas' mission aimed at dismantling all elements which facilitate transnational crime in the Americas,” he said.

“The Government of Trinidad and Tobago remains committed to maintaining a constructive and respectful relationship with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and continues to maintain peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela,” he added.

He said the government looks forward to working towards a safer, more prosperous and stable Americas. ~Trinidad Express~
