Plane crash kills six in Bahamas

ANDROS, The Bahamas--A private plane crashed off the coast of Andros in The Bahamas on Wednesday. The six-seater, twin-engine Piper Aztec was reportedly en route to New Providence when it was forced by bad weather to return to Andros. All five passengers, including a child, and the pilot perished in the crash.

Reports from Air Traffic Control in New Providence indicate that the plane went missing off radar around 8:00am on Wednesday morning and efforts to locate the plane culminated with evidence of a crash discovered about 2:30pm.

The pilot, who is understood to be Darren Clarke, was flying in inclement weather and apparently experienced significant difficulties due to the unexpected storm force weather.  While the names of the other persons on the flight have been reported on social media, the authorities have not yet fully identified all on board or notified their families.

Joint recovery efforts with the United States Coast Guard and The Bahamas Defence Force are currently underway. ~ Caribbean News Now! ~
