Escapee in Trinidad found six months after break out…dead

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad--A man who escaped a holding cell at a police station in November last year has been found dead.

Police say Peter Solomon’s body was discovered in a bushy area off Mausica Road in D’Abadie on May 12, wrapped in plastic.

An autopsy was scheduled for May 13, to determine the cause of death, but initial reports indicate there were signs of violence on the partially decomposed body.

The 26-year-old Solomon had sneaked past police officers at the Central Police Station in the capital Port-of-Spain on November 9, 2015, shortly before he was to be taken to court to answer charges of being a gang member and possession of a bulletproof vest.

His escape had triggered a manhunt and a call from the head of the Police Service Social and Welfare Association, Inspector Anand Ramesar, for a probe into the incident and a review of holding cells across the country.

He had said an investigation was needed to determine whether the prison cells in police stations were adequate. ~ Caribbean360 ~
