St. JOHN’S, Antigua--Pupils and Caribbean Lottery representatives recently gathered at Island Academy, an international school in Buckleys, St. John’s, to start a vegetable garden. The project was sponsored by the Caribbean Lottery (IGT Global Services).
“It was wonderful to have all the kids involved, and the support from IGT was great,” said Island Academy Principal Portia Moursy. The Caribbean Lottery also provided plaques indicating the type of vegetables that had been planted. “They are fantastic and have really transformed our garden,” she added.
Caribbean Lottery Site Operations Manager Paula Williams pointed out that the seed-planting exercise at the school formed part of the company’s efforts to enhance the locations in which IGT has established its After-School Advantage (ASA) Centres. “Our goal is to continue to assist with providing an environment that both encourages learning and improves the children’s well-being,” said Williams. “This is more than providing computers. We are adopting a holistic approach to our ASA Centres.”
Moursy added, “We were happy to have the extra support. This activity has really spurred us on to become more motivated with our gardening projects. The students worked well to plant the seeds and they thoroughly enjoyed the exercise.”
