Where are we, and where are we going?

Dear Editor,

The Government of Guyana's Vision to first invest and put in place all of its Overall Infrastructure for economic accessibility for the Country’s overall future commerce and development within Guyana and the surrounding Region, is surely a lesson that many Countries within our Caribbean Region can learn from.

Other Countries mistakes of the past as well as the present, of allowing rapid investment development growth without seriously and properly planning, preparing, financing, and investing, as well as having in place an Overall Comprehensive Development Plan, has time again proven to be a clear and present danger to that Country’s overall social and economic development, as well as a reality threat to the overall wellbeing of its citizens, people, visitors, and investors. Of course as Countries, we have invested much into all sorts of Multi-Anual Policy Plans, as well as other Economic Development Plans, but they are all unfortunately sitting in archives unused somewhere.

Taking stock of our realities, as well as an inventory as to our state of affairs is where it must all begin, and we have amongst us the local experience and expertise to make it all happen, while we will also seek and import external professionals to reinforce what we already possess, that will maintain our economic competitiveness on a regional and global stage.

Approving individual plans without an Overall Development Approach, while great for a Country and its economic development, has time and time again proven to be a recipe for negative and adverse effects within the areas of our overall infrastructure, environment, housing, labour market, public health, social development, tourism, educational system, security and public safety, immigration, protection of our children, seniors, disabled, less fortunate, as well as our mentally challenged.

These are many of the areas, when not properly taken care of, can either build or destroy a Nation, a Country, as well as its overall Economy. I always continue to say, that there is no one person with all of the answers and solutions, but in coming together we will be able to make it possible, and make it happen for our Country’s present and future overall development.

Sint Maarten is now at a crossroad in so many areas, and so the decisions that we must together in cohesion take as a Country is at an inevitable stage, should our desire be to focus on our protection, preservation, prosperity, and our people.
