I believe that a good name goes a long way. And I also believe that if I am the president (leader) of any organisation my name goes as the organisation goes. Where am I going with this? It is no secret that by now all of us are aware of the mess that the traffic with motor vehicles on St. Maarten is in.
Our Prime Minister publicly made that known. So why is nothing being done to rectify whatever can be rectified? We are already in the middle of August and, before we know it, and with God's grace, we will be into our high tourist season, when we will be expecting an increase in motor vehicle traffic.
Because of what I did, I am aware of the shortcomings in traffic. No painted traffic situations, missing signboards etc. Without exaggerating at least three times a week, including today, I have to assist drivers, mostly visitors, driving through the Hotelsteeg coming from the Backstreet.
The no-entry sign which should be placed on the Backstreet has not been there for almost two years. I have reported this several times to VROMI but in vain. There are a lot more (negative) traffic situations, which, because of the size of the traffic layout, everyone, yes, everyone who possesses a driver's licence is acquainted with.
So would I be amiss if I declare that when it comes to the deplorable traffic situation, everybody in authority is guilty?
