MARIGOT--President Daniel Gibbs ordered at the end of last week removal of unsightly car wrecks in the public domain, an operation that will continue in the coming weeks. Some 500 car wrecks have already been taken to the eco-landfill since the passing of Hurricane Irma.
The landfill in Grand Cayes has a special facility for depolluting car wrecks and breaking them down for recycling. The Collectivité’s Department of Environment and Sustainability is charged with removing car wrecks from the public roads, car parks and pavements. It is thought about 1,500 wrecks still have to be collected. Insurance companies also have an interest in this operation.
The Collectivité has often collected car wrecks from residents without charge. Over the past two years, 1,200 car wrecks have been removed.
