Woman arrested Friday for embezzling joint court funds

PHILIPSBURG--A female suspect M.J.-C. was arrested by the National Detectives of St. Maarten (Landsrecherche) on Friday for embezzling sums of money from the bank accounts of the St. Maarten branch of the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and that of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.


The embezzlement occurred over an extended period of time. The investigation has been named “Triggerfish.”
The Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release that the suspect had access to the accounts of the joint courts through her position. After arresting the suspect, the National Detectives searched a house in Cay Bay and another in Cole Bay. Documents and data carriers were seized during the searches.
The Triggerfish investigation is in full swing, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
