Winners crowned at Miss Pitchounette, Junior Carnival Queen pageants Sunday

GALISBAY--The Miss Pitchounette and St. Martin Junior Carnival Queen pageants officially opened the Queen Pageant season for this year with hundreds showing up at the Carnival Village in Galisbay on Sunday afternoon.

Maelys Charlot was crowned Miss Pitchounette 2016 while Shalya Ferrol won the Junior Carnival Queen crown. Fourth Vice President of the Collectivité Rosette Gumbs-Lake was present to crown the queens close to 10:00pm Sunday.

Stéphanie Carty, Mickeylie Connor, Maelys Farlot, Tahys Chanton and Margaux Benaziz competed in the Pitchounette pageant representing several primary schools on the French side.

Shaliya Ferrol, Angele Robin, Lanha Banjanac, Theranika Abraham and Ashley Mussington were the contestants in the Junior Carnival Queen pageant.

A commanding 456 points made the difference at the end of the night for Maelys Charlot, who was deemed Miss Photogenic because of her vibrant smile every time she graced the stage. The crowd favourite also won Miss Popularity and Best Speech before capturing the crown.

In the Junior Queen pageant the competition was tight between Theranika Abraham and Ashley Mussington. However, Shalya Ferrol came out on top as the surprise name at the end of the night. Ferrol also won Miss Photogenic.

The 2016 French-side Carnival was launched officially on Friday night and Committee   President Jean-Philippe Richardson plans to make this Carnival one for the books. He thanked all those persons who came out last night and hopes that Carnival-lovers will continue to support Carnival on the Northern side of the island.
