ANGUILLA--On Sunday, July 22, the Wellness Centre opened its Multi-Purpose Facility. The Centre is owned and operated by Marilyn Hodge and was originally established in 2007. The opening was an evening of cultural and religious performances before a large audience of young and senior persons in the community.

At first the Centre was a confidential counselling service but the expanded services now include a wider array of programmes for young adults and seniors ages 17 to 100 and a special programme for the elderly. These programmes are skill-based and include arts and craft, dance therapy, beauty therapy, cake decorating, floral design, graphic design, music, photography and more. The facility will also arrange entertainment, trips and excursions, and provide a safe place for young people in the Farrington Quarter and Rey Hill communities to congregate and develop their skills.

At the opening, performances included Lennox and son, Sprocka, the Rastafarian Brethren and Melodies of Praise as well as a number of soloists and dancers. Remarks were given by Sandra York-Gumbs, Clive Smith on behalf of the Ministry of Social Development and community representative Sutcliffe Hodge. The ribbon was cut by Keon Busby with the sign unveiled by Joseph Hodge, the youngest and oldest members of the family, respectively.

The Centre is in memory of the late head teacher, educator and lay reader Donice Hodge. Marilyn thanked the many people who had contributed to the opening, including the many elderly persons and the general public, for their attendance.
