Weed invasion

Sargassum seaweed has made its way to one of St. Maarten’s iconic beaches – Maho Beach. Seaweed was dumped on the beach by rolling waves in the past days. If not cleaned up by surrounding businesses or government as early as possible, the seaweed will affect beach-goers, many of whom are cruise and stay-over visitors who are essential fuel to the country’s tourism-driven economy. The beach was vacant on Monday, but will be flooded with beach bodies today, Tuesday, due to the call of cruise ship Carnival Vista.
