Visitors lend a hand

A group of 30 volunteers comprising Oyster Bay Beach Resort (OBBR) guests and staff and some Oyster Pond residents joined St. Maarten Pride Foundation last week for a coastline cleanup around Oyster Bay.

They collected 29 bags containing 870 kilos of garbage. A significant amount of hurricane debris was also collected, but was too heavy to weigh. The data will be logged as part of the 2018 Coastal Cleanup, coordinated by Ocean Conservancy worldwide and Pride locally. OBBR took care of trash removal, supplied all cleanup tools and a buffet breakfast for volunteers. Pride President Jadira Veen said this was a great show of commitment to the island and an example of voluntourism working for the country.
