Tropical wave brings much needed water to St. Eustatius

Low clouds from the tropical wave hang over the Quill National Park.

ST. EUSTATIUS--A passing tropical wave on Wednesday showered drought-affected St. Eustatius and added much needed water to drying up cisterns. The island has been on water rationing for several weeks now.

Farmers were elated with the rain and the boost it will give to their fruits and vegetables.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday some very strong winds howled across the island. These soon subsided, but not before breaking the branches off a number of trees.

Rain continued intermittently throughout the day causing patches of excess water to accumulate in known troubled areas. This caused some flight delays.

The weather system also produced some strong waves on the northern side of the island.
